12-Week Program

An introduction to Michigan's historic heritage, this program can be specifically geared towards elementary to high school levels. With most of the one hour courses listed below covered, this 12-week program gives the student a political, geographic and social feel for the time. I employ the use of maps and many "show and tell" items. There are 11 presentations each 60 minutes long with the 12th week reserved for the "Michigan History Jeopardy Game."

  • Great Fire of 1881 (The Thumb Fire): Causes and consequences, Cemeteries, Survivors' stories
  • Becoming a State: Stevens T. Mason, boy governor, The Toledo War, U.P. copper and iron industry
  • Women at Fort Michilimackinac: 1700's clothing, Fort food preparation and preservation (in costume)
  • Colonial Social Dancing: 18th Century social dancing. Cirlce dances, longways, and contradances.
